Monte Teel Cowboy Poet. An entertaining Cowboy Poet for sure!
Each year, at their Youth Cowboy Poetry Gathering, Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch awards a Cowboy Poet Award is awarded.
The award was established in 2005 by poet Marion “Monty” Teel, in memory of his father, Marion Ray Teel (1937-1980).
Euless, Texas Monty has enjoyed entertaining with his own brand of cowboy poetry, featuring “history, heritage and humor the cowboy way,” throughout Texas and the West. He grew up on the Teel and Moncrief Ranches where he and his family raised registered Hereford and Brahman crossbreds. He and his family still own the ranches in northeast Texas. Monty excelled in 4-H in dairy cattle and livestock judging and showing. After graduating from Texas A&M with degrees in dairy science and agricultural economics, he worked for the Farm Credit Administration as an examiner. Today he is an auditor for the USDA in addition to helping on the family ranches and serving as the resident cowboy poet at the Cowtown Opry in Fort Worth.
